Supersonic Water Masers in 30 Doradus

چکیده

We report on extremely high velocity molecular gas, up to −80 km s relative to the ambient medium, in the giant star-formation complex 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), as observed in new 22 GHz H2O 616 → 523 maser emission spectra obtained with the Mopra radio telescope. The masers may trace the velocities of protostars, and the observed morphology and kinematics indicate that current star formation occurs near the interfaces of colliding stellar-wind blown bubbles. The large space velocities of the protostars and associated gas could result in efficient mixing of the LMC. A similar mechanism in the Milky Way could seed the galactic halo with relatively young stars and gas. Subject headings: Masers – Stars: formation – ISM: bubbles – ISM: individual objects: 30 Dor – ISM: kinematics and dynamics – Magellanic Clouds.

Massive Young Stellar Objects in the Large Magellanic Cloud : water masers and ESO - VLT 3 − 4 μ m spectroscopy

We investigate the conditions of star formation in the Large Magellanic Cloud. We have conducted a survey for water maser emission arising from massive young stellar objects in the 30 Doradus region (N 157) and several other H ii regions in the Large Magellanic Cloud (N 105A, N 113 and N 160A). We have identified a new maser source in 30 Dor at the systemic velocity of the LMC. We have obtained...

We report the first study of OH(1720 MHz) masers in the LMC in order to probe regions where supernova remnants interact with adjacent molecular clouds. Using the ATCA, we observed four sources in the LMC and detected a single OH(1720 MHz) maser with a flux density of 377 mJy toward 30 Doradus. No main line emission at 1665 or 1667 MHz was detected. The observed OH(1720 MHz) maser emission from ...

H 2 O Masers and Supersonic Turbulence

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We use unpublished and published VLBI results to investigate the geometry and the statistical properties of the velocity field traced by H 2 O masers in five galactic regions of star formation — Sgr B2(M), W49N, W51(MAIN), W51N, and W3(OH). In all sources the angular distribution of the H 2 O hot spots demonstrates approximate self-similarity (fractality) over...

A Chandra/ACIS Study of 30 Doradus I. Superbubbles and Supernova Remnants

We present an X-ray tour of diffuse emission in the 30 Doradus star-forming complex in the Large Magellanic Cloud using high-spatial-resolution X-ray images and spatially-resolved spectra obtained with the Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer aboard the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The dominant X-ray feature of the 30 Doradus nebula is the intricate network of diffuse emission generated by interacti...

High speed outflows driven by the 30 Doradus starburst

Echelle spectroscopy has been carried out towards a sample region of the halo of the giant H ii region 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud. This new kinematical data is the amongst the most sensitive yet obtained for this nebula and reveals a wealth of faint, complex high speed features. These are interpreted in terms of localised shells due to individual stellar winds and supernova explos...
